Firstappointed to the faculty of the College in 1946 as Instructor in English, Mrs. Ebbitt has been an Assist­ant Professor of English since 1948. In her first years in the College, Mrs. Ebbitt quickly established her­self as an unusually able teacher of writing. Subsequently, as chairman of the principal course in writingin the College, and as a member of the combined staff responsible for uniting work in writing with prac­tical criticism of the arts, she has shown a remarkable capacity for insuring full and effective discussionand collaboration among colleagues of diverse interests and points of view.ALAN SIMPSON, Assistant Professor of HistoryA graduate of Balliol College, Oxford, Mr. Simpson was first appointed to the Faculty of the College in1946.
