THE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN UNDERGRADUATE TEACHINGThe awards for excellence in Undergraduate Teaching are made toBENSON E. GINSBURG, Assistant Professor of the Biological Sciences in the CollegeMr. Ginsburg was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1939 and the degree of Master of Science in1940 by Wayne University. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy was conferred upon him by the Univer­sity of Chicago in 1943, and he was appointed Assistant in the Department of Zoology in the same year.He was on leave of absence from the University of Chicago for two years during which he was engaged inresearch connected with the war. Returning to the faculty in 1946, he was made Assistant Professor ofthe Biological Sciences in the College. Mr. Ginsburg has been an active member of the committee respon­sible for the formulation of the Natural Sciences sequence, which was inaugurated in the College duringthe year now ending. He has impressed colleagues and students alike as an able organizer and an un­usually skilful teacher.LOUISE ACKER ROBERTS, Instructor in English and Adviser in the CollegeMrs. Roberts was awarded the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in 1937, Master of Arts in 1938, and Doctorof Philosophy in 1946 by the University of Chicago. She served as Instructor in English in the Collegein I 939-40 and from I942 through the present academic year. She has served with distinction as a teacherin the College and also as a College Adviser.ELISEO VIVAS, Associate Professor of Philosophy in the CollegeMr. Vivas received the degree of Bachelor of Arts in I928 and the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 1935from the Univ.ersity of Wisconsin. He served as Consul of Venezuela in Philadelphia in I928-29. He wasappointed Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin in 1935. He held a Guggen­heim Fellowship in philosophy in I939-40 and was the Larwill Lecturer at Kenyon College in 1940. Hecame to the University of Chicago in I944 as Visiting Professor of Philosophy and was appointed Asso­ciate Professor of Philosophy in the College in I945. The award to Mr. Vivas is based upon conspicuoussuccess as a classroom teacher and upon important contributions to the planning of courses in Humanitiesand Philosophy. His contributions to the College reflect a sure and steady grasp of the ends of generaleducation and a deep commitment to their furtherance.VII. THE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN UNDERGRADUATE TEACHINGThe awards for excellence in Undergraduate Teaching are made toBENSON E. GINSBURG, Assistant Professor of the Biological Sciences in the CollegeMr. Ginsburg was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts in I939 and the degree of Master of Science in1940 by Wayne University. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy was conferred upon him by the Univer­sity of Chicago in 1943, and he was appointed Assistant in the Department of Zoology in the same year.He was on leave of absence from the University of Chicago for two years during which he was engaged inresearch connected with the war. Returning to the faculty in 1946, he was made Assistant Professor ofthe Biological Sciences in the College. Mr. Ginsburg has been an active member of the committee respon­sible for the formulation of the Natural Sciences sequence, which was inaugurated in the College duringthe year now ending. He has impressed colleagues and students alike as an able organizer and an un­usually skilful teacher.LOUISE ACKER ROBERTS, Instructor in English and Adviser in the CollegeMrs. Roberts was awarded the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in 1937, Master of Arts in I938, and Doctorof Philosophy in 1946 by the University of Chicago. She served as Instructor in English in the Collegein 1939-40 and from 1942 through the present academic year. She has served with distinction as a teacherin the College and also as a College Adviser.ELISEO VIVAS, Associate Professor of Philosophy in the CollegeMr. Vivas received the degree of Bachelor of Arts in I928 and the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 1935from the University. of Wisconsin. He served as Consul of Venezuela in Philadelphia in 1928-29. He wasappointed Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin in I935. He held a Guggen­heim Fellowship in philosophy in I939-40 and was the Larwill Lecturer at Kenyon College in 1940. Hecame to the University of Chicago in 1944 as Visiting Professor of Philosophy and was appointed Asso­ciate Professor of Philosophy in the College in 1945. The award to Mr. Vivas is based upon conspicuoussuccess as a classroom teacher and upon important contributions to the planning of courses in Humanitiesand Philosophy.
