The Specialist Degree. (1) At least seven Majors ofresident graduate work, all falling in one department ; (2)the presentation of a satisfactory dissertation on a subjectapproved by the department ; (3) the delivery of five printedor typewriten copies of his dissertation to the UniversityLibrarian.II. The Non- Specialist Degree. Nine Majors of residentgraduate work distributed among three departments, notmore than six Majors falling in any one group of departments. The prizes to be six scholarships covering a year'stuition and cash prizes of $200.c) The substitution for the present plan of the Graduate-Divinity Debate of one annual debate in the Autumn Quarter with prizes of six scholarships covering a year's tuitionand cash prizes of $300.d) The cash prizes to be distributed as follows: (1) Inthe Senior College contest: first prize, $.100; second prize,$50; expenses, $50. (2) In the Graduate-Divinity debate:UNIVERSITY RECORD 3first prize, $100; second prize, 60; third prize, $40; expenses, $100.2) The recommendation of a committee thatthe Friday following Thanksgiving Day be madea holiday was approved. 3) The following stepsfor carrying into effect the system of CollegeAdvisers adopted:a) The preparation by the President of a list of membersof the faculties who would be willing to serve as advisers.b) The posting of such a list on the official bulletinboards not later than October 15.c) The announcement of the plan in Chapel assembliesand in the Record not later than October 15.d) The preparation and distribution before November 1of ballots giving the official list of advisers for each college,to be checked, signed, and filed, with the dean of each student desiring to avail himself of the system.4) The action taken July 15, 1899, in referenceto registration in the second term of the SummerQuarter rescinded. 5) The following actiontaken :The Recorder is directed to inform instructors that incase of students who have not completed in residence thework of any course, no credit can be given for such courseupon the Recorder's book until such course has been completed through the Correspondence Division of the University.THE UNIVERSITY PRESS.One of the principal features connected withthe Pan-American exhibit of the University is thedisplay of University Press publications. Theexhibit contains all of the volumes displayed lastyear at the Paris Exposition and the collectionhas recently been revised so that it represents veryfairly the output of the institution since 1892.The volumes are uniformly bound in half morocco and the collection forms one of the most uniquefeatures of the educational department of the Pan-American Exposition.The Press announces the following books inpreparation, to be published during the autumnand winter months :Russian Political Institutions, Past and Present.By Maxime Kovalevsky.
