REGULATIONSGOVERNING THE FREE TUITION IN THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGOOF INSTRUCTORS IN AFFILIATED INSTITUTIONSAdopted May 15, 1897.i. The University offers free instruction in all'its regular courses to all instructors under regularsalaries in affiliated colleges and academies; matriculation and laboratory fees not included infree instruction.2. University Extension Lectures, UniversityExtension Class Studies, and CorrespondenceCourses are not "regular courses" within themeaning of Art. i.3. All members of faculties of an affiliated institution become entitled to the privilege of freetuition on and after the date at which affiliationgoes into effect, subject to the following regulations :1) In order that instructors in affiliated institutions may be known as such by the Universityit is stipulated that on or before June 15 of eachyear the executive head of each institution shallfile with the Dean of Affiliations a list of the instructors under engagement for the ensuing academic year.The University will not recognize a claim ofany person to the benefits of free tuition underthese provisions, unless the claimant's name appear (and is approved by the Board) in such officiallist of an affiliated institution for the year including the period during w7hich instruction is desired.2) In administration of Art. 3. 1) registrationon June 15 of appointment for the whole of theacademic year beginning the following autumnshall be held to certify title to free instructionduring any portion of the twelve months immediately following the date of certificate.3) Free tuition is not offered to persons inaffiliated institutions giving instruction for lessthan one academic year or for less than half theregular teaching time of the school.4) Instructors in affiliated institutions are heldto be entitled to free tuition while on leave ofabsence — with or without continuance of salaryfor a period not exceeding fifteen successivemonths ; provided that the persons contemplatedby this article shall be under contract to theaffiliated institution for not less than one academicyear following their residence at the University.5) In order to facilitate registration each instructor claiming privileges under these articlesshall file with the Dean of Affiliations at the time364 UNIVERSITY RECORDof registration a statement from the head of hisinstitution, containing the details necessary inaccordance with the foregoing regulations.
