Thebooks treat of Spanish, Italian, Roumanian and OldFrench subjects, and are of particular value in thefield of French. A number of these books will be ofinterest to the departments of English and German, especially those treating of the Arthurian cycle. Themost valuable work in the collection is the famous " Histoire Litteraire de la France," begun by the Benedictine Monks in the year 1733, now edited by theAcademie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres." It consists of 32 large quarto volumes (including an indexvolume), bringing the literary history of France toalmost the close of the fourteenth century. The Romance department is certainly to be congratulated on the acquisition of this choice collection, which reflects great credit on the generous donor.T.
