Goodyear, after having spentthe past Quarter lecturing under the auspices of theExtension Division of the University, has returned tohis regular duties as Curator of Archaeology, Ethnology and Fine Arts in the Brooklyn Institute Museum.During his stay here he delivered his course of sixillustrated lecture-studies on "The Debt of theNineteenth Century to Rome" at the following University Extension Centres :Sterling, 111. Oakland Club.Springfield, 111. North Shore Centre.Clinton, Iowa. Englewood Woman's Club.Lewis Institute. Kenwood Centre,and the Art Institute.The same course was delivered as a free lecturecourse at the Medill High School under the jointauspices of the University, the Chicago Board of Education, and Hull House. Recognizing that ProfessorGoodyear is one of the leading authorities on ancientand mediaeval architecture, the Chicago ArchitecturalSociety and the Illinois Chapter of the AmericanInstitute of Architects arranged for him to deliver aspecial series of lectures under their auspices.In addition to these lectures, Professor Goodyearhas conducted special study classes at a number ofthe above named centres. His enthusiasm for hiswork is unbounded, and this in not a few instanceswas imparted to his hearers. This is in a measureshown by the fact that a great many people purchasedand made a close study of the books containing theassigned readings. From one centre to which a libraryof twenty-eight volumes was sent, but five werereturned, the others having been purchased by attendants at the lectures. If Professor Goodyear returnsto the University of Chicago, he will find a number ofExtension centres anxiously awaiting opportunitiesto hear him deliver others of his courses. e. j. j.The Christian Union.The Christian Union will give its third annual reception to the students of the University on Fridayevening, January 14, in the Chapel of Cobb LectureHall.
